“IDF-Why My Donation Makes A Difference”
Have you ever noticed it’s the little things that affect our day to day life? Spilled your coffee on the way to work? Getting cut off on the freeway? And your day is practically ruined. Or contrary, someone gives you a compliment or you get nothing but green lights on the way home and you think, today was a good day. For some, they don’t have the benefit of being concerned with the little things. Their day to day life is battling against or caring for a loved one who is affected by an Immune Deficiency.
My first experience with donating plasma at Biomat, was more about earning a $25 check, then helping others. I was unaware of what plasma donation was and only stumbled upon Biomat in an effort to make a quick, honest buck. Earning $25 a donation certainly would help my finances, but I never really knew what was happening with my plasma once I made my donation and for a while I didn’t care. That is until I took the time to read through the IDF literature at the City of Orange Biomat donation center. It was there; I discovered the Think Zebra campaign and was compelled to learn more about Immune Deficiency Foundation.
I know my plasma is harvested to help create medicines, but I never understood what kind of medicines or who it was helping. And I am proud to know that the plasma that my body generates is used to help suffering from Primary Immunodeficiency diseases that affect thousands of children and adults in the United States. I know that, thousands of individuals and families who are affected by primary immunodeficiency diseases depend on IDF for advocacy, education and empowerment. And I know my two hours spent at Biomat goes to make the lives of those affected by these diseases better, by giving them the chance to live healthy lives.
